Indian opener Rohit Sharma added another feather to his cap
by becoming the second Indian, after Virat Kohli, to score 9,000 T20 runs during
the ongoing fourth encounter against England at Ahmedabad’s Narendra
Modi Stadium on Thursday.

The
right-handed batsman, who was just 11 run away from the record when he began
playing today, reached the milestone in the very first over of the match by hitting a
boundary off spinner Adil Rashid. Sharma hit a six first before that, also
bagging the record of becoming the first Indian to complete 50 T20I sixes at
home.

Sharma joined Indian cricket captain Virat Kohli, who became the first Indian to score 9,000 runs in the format during last year’s Indian Premier League in a match against Delhi Capitals.

Rohit opened the penultimate encounter of the five-match series with KL Rahul and was dismissed at 12 runs by Jofra Archer’s ball.

With this feat, Sharma, a modern day cricket legend, became the ninth highest scorer in the T20 format with more than half of his runs coming in Indian Premier league matches.

So far, Sharma has scored 9,001 runs from 342 matches across T20s with a strike rate of 133.36. He also has six centuries and more than 60 fifties in the same format.

Sharma also has over 500 run to his credit in the IPL format. Last January, Rohit became the third fastest player in the world to reach 9,000 runs in One Day Internationals.
