The last time the two sides met, India had the upper hand. But England have come a long way since. With new leadership in Stokes and Brendon McCullum, they defeated reigning WTC champions New Zealand in a three-match contest.
For India, Rohit Sharma has replaced Virat Kohli as captain and Rahul Dravid has come in as head coach.
Senior batter Cheteshwar Pujara, speaking to BCCI, said that India have a full-proof plan to win the Test on English soil.

“I think the most important thing is we have a good bunch of players, we have quality fast bowlers. So the way the guys did in the last four Test matches here, I’m sure the guys are eager to do the same thing again and if we can win this particular Test match and win the series on English soil, I think it will be one of the best victories India has. I think it’s a good challenge for us.”
India last defeated England in a series in England in 2007, under the leadership of Rahul Dravid. The ‘Wall of India’ is again heading the proceedings, as coach.
