Talismanic
Indian batter Virat Kohli has often been compared with legendary Sachin
Tendulkar
for his ability to score a pile of runs for the national team across
the formats. Kohli, like Tendulkar, is a stylish batter who poses impeccable
technique and has an array of strokes in his armoury. Kohli is also touted to
be the only contemporary cricketer who can break Tendulkar’s record of hundred centuries.
The former India captain maintains 50 plus average across three formats and
scored 43 centuries in ODIs and 27 in Tests, respectively. With such a
staggering rally to his credit, Kohli is regarded as a serious contender to
match Tendulkar or surpass his international tally by the time he finishes his
career. And it is normal for fans and cricket experts to wade into the debate –
who is a better cricketer?

Now,
Tendulkar himself jumped into the debate and asked Graham Bensinger in an
interview on the latter’s Youtube channel “how about having both of us in one
team?” when he was asked who the better cricketer is in a rapid-fire round of
questions.

Golf is Tendulkar’s preferred sport

48-year-old
also said he prefers golf over racquetball. When asked what he would prefer, a
hole-in-one in golf or a double century in cricket, Tendulkar said,
“Wouldn’t be a bad idea to get a double hundred and then score a hole in
one.”

Asked
to pick his favourite footballer between Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo,
Tendulkar said the former is “more of his type”.

Kohli,
33, had earlier quashed any kind of comparison with Tendulkar with whom he won
the 2011 World Cup. “You can only compare those who are worthy of the
comparison. You are comparing me to someone because of whom I started playing
cricket in the first place. I stand no chance in terms of skill level. He’s the
most complete batsman ever. Then how can you even compare? I’ve always said
it’s not fair no him. Because of what he’s given us, he doesn’t deserve to be
compared to us. This generation, no chance,” he told Gaurav Kapur in a
session of Breakfast With Champions.
