Sam Kerr, the captain of Australia, will miss the first two games of the Women’s World Cup due to a calf injury acquired in practice.

Kerr was not there for the co-hosts’ Group B opener at Stadium Australia on Thursday against the Republic of Ireland.

The 29-year-old, who holds the Australian record for goals scored, will also be unavailable against Nigeria on July 27.

Now, Kerr will be hoping to be healthy for Australia’s last Group B encounter against Canada on July 31.
