San Francisco 49ers‘ running back Christian McCaffrey registered a unique record in Week 8 of the NFL 2022 season as he became the first player in 17 years to pass, rush and receive a touchdown in a single game. He achieved the feat against the Los Angeles Rams at Sofi Stadium on Sunday, October 30.

The last player to achieve this feat was Ladanian Tomlinson, who claimed it in a 27–14 win at Oakland Raiders in Week 6 of the 2005 season.

McCaffrey became just the 11th player in the 102 years of the league to have this record.

Watch the three plays that led to this rare accomplishment:

The 26-year-old first passed to wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk for 34 yards to tie the game after receiving the pass from QB Jimmy Garoppolo in the second quarter. This was also just the second passing TD of his six-year NFL career.

In the final minutes of the third quarter, the 49ers were in the 10-yard line of the Rams. Then, Garoppolo connected with McCaffrey who was open and jumped high into the air before proceeding to catch the ball as he fell into the endzone. This gave his team a 16-14 lead over their opponents.

He became the touchdown triple crown after rushing into the Rams’ endzone in the third minute of the fourth quarter. This gave the 49ers a 23-14 cushion over their rivals which ultimately resulted in a 31-14 victory for the team.

This is just his second game for his new team after getting traded from the Carolina Panthers before Week 7 started.

The 49ers, who are among the best defensive sides of the current season, restricted a formidable Los Angeles offense to just 14 points and five of nine in 3rd down completions. The team is now second in the NFC West with four wins and as many losses.
