Saudi Arabia coach Herve Renard has denied rumors that each player of his team was being rewarded a Rolls-Royce for beating Argentina 2-1 in the FIFA World Cup 2022 group stages match in Qatar.

The rumor that had gone viral was that Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman promised players in the Saudi squad a Rolls-Royce Phantom each after their win over the World Cup favorites. The prices for the luxury Phantom start at £363,600. If the rumors proved true, the figure would have shot up to £9.4 million for the crown prince, who reportedly has a net worth of $8 billion.

Renard said: “There is nothing true about this. We have a very serious federation and ministry of sport. It’s not time to get something at this moment. We only have had one game and there are two very important games left. And we are hoping for some more.”

“I don’t know if you remember the press conference before the Argentina game. That is one of three important games we must play,” he added. “The only good thing at the end of this group stage is to finish number one or number two. We are still the lowest-ranked team of this group in terms of experience.”

He said: “We are still the lowest-ranked team of this group in terms of experience. At this time nothing changes. Nothing changes about the favourites for this World Cup. We are keeping our humility. If we miss our humility we won’t play well tomorrow.”

Saudi Arabia, ranked 51st in the world by FIFA, beat no. 3 Argentina, effectively ending their 36-game unbeaten record, thanks to goals from Saleh Al Shehri and Salem Al Dawsari.

Alshehri also told the journalist that serving his country was the only reward he needs.
