Coach Sean McVay and Los Angeles Rams celebrated quarterback Baker Mayfield’s first touchdown pass of NFL 2022. With 15 seconds to go in the fourth quarter, the 27-year-old connected with wide receiver Van Jefferson to take his team home.
LA Rams defeated Las Vegas Raiders 17-16 at the SoFi Stadium on Thursday.
Late in the game, Raiders led 16-10. The Rams were on 2nd and 10th. Mayfield went for a 23-yard pass to hit Van Jefferson for the tying score with 9 seconds remaining. Matt Gay went for the extra point to give them the lead.
Watch:
With Matthew Stafford out, the Rams, now 4-9, picked Mayfield off waivers from the Carolina Panthers. The former No. 1 pick went 22 of 35 for 230 yards and snapped the defending Super Bowl champions’ six-game losing streak.
Running back Josh Jacobs was Las Vegas’ top-performer. He rushed for 99 yards and the only touchdown for the team. Quarterback Derek Carr passed for 137 yards with no TDs and two interceptions.
Mayfield was having a terrible season for the Panthers, but he improbably injected a spark into the Rams with a handful of big plays and decent drives despite minimal knowledge of McVay’s offense.

Los Angeles reached the red zone for the first time with 5 1/2 minutes to play, and Akers capitalized.
