Turf had been with the team since 2013, when Seattle claimed its first and only Super Bowl. Turf was not just a dog but almost a part of the team and was even given an official title for the franchise, which was Wildlife Manager and Irrigation Specialist at VMAC.
Soon after the Seahawks’ tweet, fans started paying tribute to Turf. “This games for you Turf!” one of them said, while another noted, “Seahawks by a million today.” One more said, “I am crying again moderators.” Another fan remarked, “Man… y’all gotta do it for tha boy.” A fan wrote, “Gone but never be forgotten Turf. He had his own Twitter page, which also broke the news of his sad demise on December 9. After his death, the page put out a heart-wrenching tweet that read: “Grateful. The best life any dog could’ve dreamed of. Thank you to the @Seahawks organization, @12s, the players, coaches, staff – for everything. Don’t be sad that he’s gone, be happy that he lived the ultimate and fullest life.”
Earlier this year, Turf had to undergo surgery as part of his ongoing battle with cancer, causing him to lose a leg. The dog had a claim-to-fame moment in his life when he was featured on an episode of Animal Cribs on Animal Planet in 2017.
