Four-time Formula One champion Sebastian Vettel will be joining the renamed Aston Martin in 2021, currently known as Racing Point. He’ll be joining the team after leaving Ferrari at the end of the season. He will be replacing Sergio Perez at Aston Martin, whose departure at the end of the 2020 season was announced on Wednesday.

“The signing of Sebastian is a clear statement of the team’s ambition to establish itself as one of the most competitive names in the sport,” the team said in a statement

Terming Vettel as “one of the most accomplished and respected drivers in world motorsport”, Racing Point said he’ll bring fresh mindset to the team.

Lauding Vettel’s achievements that he won four consecutive titles with Red Bull Racing between 2010 – 2013 and multiple Grands Prix victories with Scuderia Ferrari in the years since, his “experience and leadership qualities make him the perfect driver to help the team achieve its ambitions”, the statement read.

“I am pleased to finally share this exciting news about my future. I’m extremely proud to say that I will become an Aston Martin driver in 2021,” said Vettel in a team statement.

“It’s a new adventure for me with a truly legendary car company,” he added.

He said he has been impressed with the team’s results this year and believes that the future looks even brighter.

“I still have so much love for Formula 1 and my only motivation is to race at the front of the grid. To do so with Aston Martin will be a huge privilege,” he said.

The team statement did not give further details. However, it said that Vettel had signed up “for 2021 and beyond”.

He joined Ferrari in 2015 and will be leaving the team as his contract wouldn’t be renewed.
