Vesna Pesic, a well-known politician from
Serbia, said that Novak Djokovic is “not stupid, he’s uneducated” on his
decision to remain unvaccinated against Covid-19. If vaccination is mandatory
for the 2022 US Open to be played from August 29 to September 11, then Novak
Djokovic will not participate as he has strong beliefs against vaccination.

The
21-time Grand Slam Champion has repeatedly refused to be vaccinated against
Covid-19 that is needed to enter the US. On account of that, he is prohibited
from the tournament that he had been the champion of three times before.

Serbian politician and sociologist Vesna Pesic put up
a tweet criticizing the former World No. 1 for his decision. However, she kept
it clear that she had no problem with him personally. The tweet can be translated
to “He is not stupid, he’s uneducated, because he’s only been hitting the ball
since he was 6 years old. It’s not a sin, he’s achieved success. I have no
chance to fight with them either.” (Via google translation)

This was essentially a reply to someone who commented
on her previous tweet, which said that she herself was a fan of the 21-time
Grand Slam champion before putting up a question on when he would get
vaccinated, given he is already 35.

However, according to the updated CDC (Centers for
Disease Control and Prevention) guidelines, there would not be any
discrimination between the ones who are vaccinated and the ones who are not.
Consequently, Djokovic might still be able to compete in the final Major of the
year. As of now, the guidelines are applicable to only US citizens. The Serb
will have the chance to play at Flushing Meadows if the CDC decides to extend
the rule
to everyone.

Borg will lead the team in the competition that will be held from September
