Mexican singer Sofia Reyes sung the national anthem ‘Himno Nacional Mexicano’ on the Monday Night Football game between San Francisco 49ers and Arizona Cardinals at the Estadio Azteca, Mexico City.

In 1854, the anthem was first used. After a Federal contest in 1853, poet Francisco González Bocanegra composed the lyrics of the national anthem, which allude to historical Mexican military victories in the heat of battle and include cries of defending the homeland.

Viewers on social media praised Reyes’ performance.

“Her rendition was on point and beautiful,” said one fan. “Well done!” And look at that Red&Gold sea!”

Canelo Alvarez, a professional boxer, was among those who sang along. The WBA Middleweight Champion is a Guadalajara, Mexico native.

Reyes is a singer and songwriter from Mexico. In 2018, she rose to prominence with her song “1,2,3,” which featured Jason Derulo and De La Ghetto. In 2019, she collaborated with Brazilian singer Anitta and British singer Rita Ora on the song “R.I.P.”

This is the fifth game of the NFL in Mexico series. The first-ever game to be played on the country’s soil was between the same two teams. Today’s game is considered the home game of Arizona as they relinquished their one home game in order to play here.

NFL players’ popularity is on just another level in the Latin American nation. Buffalo Bills’ QB Josh Allen‘s jersey is the most selling in the country, while at the second spot is San Francisco 49ers’ tight end, George Kittle. His team-mate, Nick Bosa is also in the top-5 list.

The game is attended by 103,467 fans, a record at the venue. According to the NFL, Mexico has approximately 46 million NFL fans, making it the country with the largest NFL fanbase outside of the United States.

The country celebrated its 112th anniversary of the Mexican Revolution on Sunday.
