After Japan’s defeat to Croatia in the first penalty shootout of the tournament, South Korea remains the only Asian side remaining in the FIFA World Cup 2022. On Monday, the Asian giants take on five-time world champions Brazil in a bid to qualify for the quarter-finals where they meet Croatia.

The far east Asian side will count on valuable performances by skipper Son Heung-Min, their top scorer of the event Cho Gue- Sung and Hee-Chon Hwang, whose last moment strike eliminated Uruguay at the last moment and helped South Korea to enter the pre-quarterfinal stage of the tournament.

1. Goal against Mexico in the 2018 World Cup 

Having lost the first match of the event to Sweden, Korea found themselves in a must win situation against Mexico. After leading 1-0 and just minutes to go before the end, the Koreans were given another chance to increase their lead and virtually seal the match as they won a free kick. The skipper Son took it and efficiently hit the ball above the Chilean defenders into the goal as the goal keeper kept watching in utter disbelief.

As Korea trailed Paraguay 0-2, they were in desperate search for a goal. Son Heung-Min rose to the occasion again with a brilliant free kick that cut across the Paraguay defenders into the goal and fetched Korea a much needed goal. Finally Korea equalised the match 2-2.

4.Korea’s second goal against Germany in the 2018 World Cup

In their last group game, Korea led Germany 1-0 with just a few minutes left. German keeper Neuer rushed in as a midfielder in a desperate goal attempt and a long pass ensured that there were none between Son and the goal as Korea notched up a 2-0 win and went home with heads held high.
