India is set to announce its squad for the
upcoming T20 World Cup in the UAE soon, and fans are already hyped about the
possible line-up. The Chetan Sharma-led selection panel is expected to meet at
the BCCI headquarters in Mumbai and get in touch with skipper Virat Kohli and
head coach Ravi Shastri, currently in the United Kingdom, either on Tuesday or
Wednesday to finalise the squad, PTI reported.

BCCI president Sourav Ganguly and secretary
Jay Shah are also expected to be part of the meeting, according to the report. With
Australia, New Zealand and Pakistan already having announced their squads for
the showpiece event, all eyes are on India to finalise its selection.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the International
Cricket Council (ICC) has allowed a squad strength of 30, increasing it from 23
in earlier editions. The BCCI is expected to announce a 18 to 20-member squad.

While India has around 13 to 15 automatic
selections, like captain Virat Kohli, his deputy Rohit Sharma, pace spearhead
Jasprit Bumrah and others, there are a few selection dilemmas. One of them is
the contention of playing a left-arm seamer, with both T Natarajan and Chetan
Sakariya in the reckoning.

While the former has played very little
cricket, fans are calling for his selection, given his eye-catching
performances in the IPL. “Natarajan will be best option for team has he
provides some variety to this Indian bowling combination, as there is no left
arm seamer in Indian line up,” a user tweeted.

“With world cup happening in UAE,natarajan
done excellent job in last ipl in UAE, i will go with him, and we need atleast
one left arm fast bowler in squad,” another user said.

Bumrah is a given in the squad, while Mohammed
Shami and  Shardul Thakur are also
expected to be named with Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s inclusion not assured.

Ravindra Jadeja and Yuzvendra Chahal are
expected to be named in the spin department, with Rahul Chahar likely to provide
backup. But some fans are calling for Ravichandran Ashwin’s inclusion, if Washington
Sundar is ruled out with his injury.

“Why is everyone excluding Ashwin? He is
still a lot better T20 spinner than others…” one user said.

“Indian team not picking a Offspinner in
the T20I World Cup squad will be huge huge blunder… Be it Sundar or Ashwin..
Off Spinner is needed badly…” another opined.

Meanwhile, with fans are also surprised
with the rumours that Shikhar Dhawan may not get a spot in the squad. According
to speculations, Prithvi Shaw is expected to be the backup for Rohit and KL Rahul
in the opening spot.

The World Cup will start from October 17, two
days after the conclusion of the IPL, with the final scheduled for November 14.
