Brought by the streaming service CBS All Access (later rebranded as Paramount+), Star Trek: Picard is an American television series produced by Akiva Goldsman, Michael Chabon, Kirsten Beyer, and Alex Kurtzman. As a part of Kurtzman’s enlarged Star Trek Universe, it made its premiere in 2020 as the eighth Star Trek television series.

The series, which premiered 20 years after Star Trek: Nemesis, stars retired Starfleet admiral Jean-Luc Picard (2002). Different facets of the character in his old age are examined in each season.

Star Trek: The Next Generation and other Star Trek media have both featured Patrick Stewart in the role of Picard. In addition to Jeri Ryan, Orla Brady, and Brent Spiner coming for the second season, the first season also features Alison Pill, Isa Briones, Harry Treadaway, Michelle Hurd, Santiago Cabrera, and Evan Evagora. Stewart, Ryan, Hurd, as well as LeVar Burton, Michael Dorn, Jonathan Frakes, Gates McFadden, Marina Sirtis, and Spiner from the previous season of The Next Generation, make up the cast of the third season.

The series starts in 2399, 20 years after Jean-Luc Picard’s final appearance in Star Trek: Nemesis (2002), and finds the character still reeling from Data’s passing and the devastation of the planet Romulus in Star Trek (2009).
