Irish bowler Curtis Campher took the first hattrick of the 2021 T20 World Cup when he picked wickets off four consecutive balls against the Netherlands on Monday. The 22-year-old’s lethal spell left the Dutch reeling at 80/6 after 15 overs in the first innings. They eventually scored

Third match into the T20 World Cup this year and we have already seen some brilliant display of cricket. A day after Scotland secured a stunning win against Mahmudullah’s Bangladesh, Ireland’s Campher registered a double hat-trick. He became the first Irish cricketer as well as third overall after Rashid Khan and Lasith Malinga to achieve the feat.

Colin Ackermann, Ryan ten Doeschate, Scott Edwards and Roelof van der Merwe were his victims.

Irish skipper Andrew Balbirnie asked Campher to bowl the 10th over when the Netherlands were 50/2. On the second ball of the over, Campher dismissed Ackermann with a ball going down leg. The ball that took an edge was initially signalled wide only for the umpire to later reverse his decision. The next batsman to fall was  ten Doeschate, who was found plumb in front of the stumps. Scott Edwards was hit low on the pads and after a review the third umpire found that there was no bat involved. Campher had scored his hattrick. The next delivery was full and wide and dragged onto the stumps by van der Merwe.

Campher finished the innings with four wickets for 26 runs in his four overs.

Having chosen to bat first, Netherlands lost their first wicket on the third ball of the innings. Opener Max ODowd played a 50-run hand. Joshua Little and Mark Adair picked a wicket each.
