India, New Zealand, Pakistan and England are the four semifinalists for the T20 World Cup 2022. The knockout stage will kickoff on Wednesday, November 9.

Netherlands on Sunday beat Temba Bavuma-led South Africa to knock them out of the run to the semis. Pakistan’s five-wicket win over Zimbabwe took them to the knockout stage. Babar and co qualify from Group 2, along with India.

From Group 1, New Zealand topped the stage. England’s final over win against Sri Lanka ensured that they finished above defending champions and hosts Australia. Aaron Finch and co needed a big win in their last group stage game vs Afghanistan. But Rashid Khan’s fight at the end denied the Kangaroos a shot at the semis.

New Zealand, England and Australia finished the Super 12 stage with seven points each. The former two beat the hosts on Net Run Rate.

India play Zimbabwe on Sunday in the last game of the group stage. The game, inconsequential after South Africa’s loss vs Netherlands, is expected to be won by Rohit Sharma and co. A victory will take them atop the Group 2.

Australia and South Africa’s chances have been hurt by constant showers across venues. The Kangaroos’ game against England was a washout. Their opening match loss vs the Kiwis made sure they needed to win all the remaining games.

South Africa’s game against Zimbabwe, which they were poised to win, was abandoned. The Proteas managed to beat India and Bangladesh before losing vs Pakistan and Netherlands.

“Very disappointing. We really played well before this game. We knew it was a must-win game and again we faltered when it mattered. Hard one to swallow for the guys. We had the confidence and the belief to get to the knockouts. You can pick out a lot of things when you lose that way,” South Africa captain Temba Bavuma said after the loss.
