Zimbabwe defeated Pakistan by one run in the Group 2 match of the T20 World Cup 2022 on Thursday, October 27. 

Babar Azam and co, after the loss, are fifth on the points table. They lost their tournament opener against India. 

Craig Ervine won the toss and opted to bat. Openers stitched a 42-run stand in five overs before Pakistan’s Haris Rauf struck with a short ball. 

Ervine scored 19 runs in as many balls and Madhevere made 17. Zimbabwe were 47/2 after the powerplay. Sean Williams top-scored for the team with a 28-ball 31 with the help of three boundaries.

Imad Wasim got rid of Sikandar Raza and Luke Jongwe in the 15th over as Zimbabwe settled for 130 runs.

Coming out to bat second, Pakistan lost Babar Azam (4) for 13 runs. His opening partner Mohammad Rizwan was the other batter dismissed in the powerplay. The team scored 28 runs in the first six overs. 

Shan Masood and Shadab Khan stitched a handy partnership and Pakistan reached 54/3 at the halfway stage, needing 77 runs in 60 balls.

Sikandar Raza finished the game with three wickets for 25 runs. Brad Evans picked two. 

Babar and co needed 11 runs in the last over. Eight runs came off the first three deliveries and the equation was down to three needed in three balls. 

Evans delivered a dot ball and then foxed Mohammad Nawaz with extra bounce. The Pak batter faulted on an attempted lofted drive to see Ervine take catch, running from mid-off.  

With three needed off the last ball, Pakistan could manage only one. Zimbabwe contained their opponents for 129 runs.
