Australian leg-spinner Adam Zampa registered the second fifer and the best figures of the ongoing T20 World Cup as Bangladesh were skittled out for a lowly 73 in their Super 12 clash in Dubai on Thursday.

Zampa finished with figures of five for 19 from four overs, which is also the best in his T20I career, to set up what should be an easy chase in a boost to Australia’s chances of making the semi-finals.

The Bangladesh batting unit continued their disappointing run in the Super 12s with another abject showing against Australia, bundled out in just 15 overs after being asked to bat first.

The Bangla Tigers, who are already out of the tournament and are playing for pride, could not negotiate either the pacers or spinners as Josh Hazlewood (2/8), Mitchell Starc (2/21) and Glenn Maxwell (1/6) were also among the wickets.

But it was Zampa that ran riot to register the best figures by a bowler in the showpiece event. Afghanistan spinner Mujeeb Ur Rahman’s five for 20 against Scotland was the previous best return by a bowler.

Bangladesh could not apply themselves even as the ball was coming nicely on to the bat on a surface on which 328 runs were scored yesterday.

Starc provided the first wicket as Liton Das (0) dragged one back on to the stumps while Josh Hazlewood got rid of Soumya Sarkar (5), who also played on to the stumps.

Maxwell trapped Mushfiqur Rahim (1) while Zampa had Afif Hossain (0) caught in the slip region. Hazlewood got his second victim in opener Mohammad Naim (17) to leave Bangladesh reelingat 33 for five.

Zampa then had the left-handed Shamim Hossain (19) caught behind when he tried to play a cut shot and trapped Mahedi Hasan (0) in the next ball to be on a hat-trick. When he returned to bowl, wicket-keeper Matthew Wade dropped a catch to deny the milestone.

Skipper Mahmadullah (16) too departed soon with Starc spelling his ouster by having him caught behind, leaving Bangladesh at 65 for eight.

Bangladesh were now in danger of not even competing their 20-over quota and Zampa did not let them by scalping the remaining two batters.
