Debutants Namibia‘s fairy tale run at the ongoing T20 World Cup continued on Wednesday with a four-wicket win over Scotland at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi.

Namibia restricted Scotland, who were without their captain Kyle Coetzer as he was nursing a finger injury, for a paltry 109-run total after pacer Ruben Trumpelmann took three wickets in a sensational first over.

After the initial setback, Scotland rallied with Michael Leask scoring a quickfire 44, while Chris Greaves added 25 runs to help the side to three figures. Leask’s 27-ball innings included four fours and two sixes. Opener Matthew Cross also contributed with a handy 19.

However, Namibia did not have it all their own way in the chase, as Scotland were threatening to register an unlikely win at one point.

Opener Michael van Lingen (18) was the first to depart before Zane Green (9), skipper Erasmus (4) and his partner Craig Williams (24) were returned to the dugout in quick time to leave Namibia reeling at 67 for the loss of four.

The spin trio of Chris Greaves, Mark Watt and Michael Leask were able to maintain the pressure on Namibia batters but the seasoned David Wiese (16 off 15) and JJ Smith (32 not out off 23) found a way to break the shackles.

Wiese was dismissed when Namibia was close to the finishing line but Smith ensured his team crossed the finishing line in the 20th over with a six over point.

Scotland bowled their heart out but their batters inability to put enough runs on the board led to their downfall.

Earlier, 23-year-old Trumpelmann got the ball to shape back into the right-hander from the word go and the one that went away with the angle also troubled the Scotland top-order.

He dismissed George Munsey (0), Calum MacLeod (0) and stand-in skipper Richie Berrington (0) with his first, third and fourth deliveries respectively.
