Quinton de Kock
made himself unavailable for South Africa’s fixture against the West Indies in
the ICC T20 World Cup on Tuesday “personal reasons”. The Super 12 Group 1 match is being played at the Dubai International Stadium. South Africa’s
captain Tempa Bavuma revealed at the toss that de Kock’s decision is attributed
to personal reasons.

Bavuma
said, “Quinny is out and Reeza is in. He (de Kock) has made himself
unavailable for personal reasons.”

On Monday, the Cricket South Africa (CSA) board decided that the team should adopt “a consistent and united stance against racism” for the remainder of their matches, according to the Indian Express.

The 28-year-old left-handed opener had declined to take the knee in the past, saying it was his “own personal opinion” on the matter. “It’s everyone’s decision. No one is forced to do anything. Not in life. That’s the way I see things. That’s just about it,” de Kock said in June.

Meanwhile, West Indies captain Kieron Pollard won the toss and chose to bowl. Reeza Hendricks took Quinton’s place in South Africa’s playing XI. The
32-year-old attacking opener will be hoping to impress in his 38th
T20I appearance.

The South Africans made only one change to
their side which lost to Australia on Saturday in a close encounter which was decided
in the last over.

At the toss, Bavuma said, “I think just having a look at the wicket, it has
been challenging for us to know what a good score is, so we want to have a
look. We take out a lot (from the series win against West Indies), all the
positives and all the negatives. We know what a power-packed side they are,
looking at our performances we know where we can cool them down.

Speaking on the area of focus for the team, the 31-year-old said, “Probably the batting. I think that would be the one I would highlight
and like to show a better batting display.”

The West Indies will step onto the field after
an extremely poor display against England, being bowled out for 55 runs. They
will have to perform much better in order to fight for the title.

The team made one change to their XI as Obed
McCoy was replaced by Hayden Walsh.
