Eoin Morgan and company, after winning three games in a trot in the T20 World Cup 2021 so far, will look to seal a semifinals spot as they lock horns with Sri Lanka at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium on Monday. The 2014 champions, on the other hand, will look to keep their campaign alive with a win.

England come riding on a dominant show against arch-rivals Australia. The 2019 World Cup champs bowled the Kangaroos for a mere 125 before chasing down the target with 50 balls to spare. It was Jos Buttler’s fiery knock that led the way for the three lions. The wicketkeeper-opener scored an unbeaten 71 off 32 balls with the help of five fours and as many sixes. Pacer Chris Woakes was brilliant with the new ball and Chris Jordan too came to the party with triple strikes. Death overs specialist Tymal Mills was a tad expensive but he has been able to pick wickets throughout the tournament.

Skipper Morgan said that England will not be rotating for the sake of it in the group stage, hinting at an unchanged playing 11 for the game against Sri Lanka. Mark Wood and Tom Curran are recovering from injuries and could come into contention.

On the other hand, Sri Lanka will need to produce a special performance to keep the English in check. Dasun Shanaka and company, after the dominating all the 39 overs against South Africa, gave away 18 runs in the final one to lose by four wickets (1 ball left). Unfortunately for them, it was their second loss in three games and they must win against England to keep themselves in the competition.

The likes of Charith Asalanka and opener Pathum Nissanka have been firing for Sri Lanka. Spinner Wanindu Hasaranga comes with a hattrick against his name. There is a high chance that an under-firing Avishka Fernando – 7 runs from his last three innings – could be replaced by Dhananjaya de Silva.

Squad: England: Eoin Morgan, Moeen Ali, Jonathan Bairstow, Sam Billings, Jos Buttler, Tom Curran, Chris Jordan, Liam Livingstone, Dawid Malan, Tymal Mills, Adil Rashid, Jason Roy, David Willey, Chris Woakes, Mark Wood.
