Polish tennis professional Iga Swiatek won the French Open 2022 women’s singles final on Saturday by defeating 18-year-old Coco Gauff. The win marks her second title at the European tournament and extends her winning streak to 35 games. 

Penning down a note of gratitude on Instagram, the 21-year-old wrote, “The one thing that I’ve learned over these two years is that all you can do and all you can control is your work. Your effort, your engagement. So together with my team we just try every single day, step by step. And here we are – in this amazing moment, with this incredible achievement.”

“It’s time to reflect on that a little bit, enjoy, click „pause” button, take some rest, appreciate every single thing. Thank you tennis. Sometimes you’re challenging but I appreciate everything that you’re giving me,” she added, along with a Polish translation of the text. 

The Instagram post features three images of Swiatek holding Coupe Suzanne Lenglen, the silver trophy, and kneeling down on the clay court.

Uploaded a few hours ago, the post has garnered over 56,000 likes and more than 2,200 comments.

Reacting to the images, one user wrote, “Amazing, no words needed… you are such an inspiration Iga. never change, stay as you are.”

Another added, “We all Poles are so proud of You our sun! This girl is more than tennis, she is like diamond! IGUŚ.”

In her victory speech on Saturday, a teary-eyed Swiatek with a ribbon in the colors of Ukraine‘s flag around her neck addressed citizens of the war-torn nation and urged them to remain strong in times of distress.

She also congratulated Gauff, while assuring her of the accomplishments that lie ahead as she improves.

“First if all I want to congratulate you, I see you are improving every week, you will find it and you will be there. I am pretty sure of that,” she said.
