India was on a visit to the West Indies in 2006 when they played five ODIs and four Tests. The Rahul Dravid-led squad had suffered a crushing 1-4 loss in the one-day series but overcame the Windies 1-0 in the Test series. The team had made a strong start to the tour, winning the first ODI in Jamaica by five wickets. The second match at the same site, however, is still remembered by supporters as a painful one-run defeat for India.

The picture of Yuvraj Singh looking in shock when he was bowled by Dwayne Bravo is still vivid in Indian cricket fans’ thoughts. Sixteen years later, the West Indies all-rounder recalled the event, saying it “changed” his life.

“It made the world look up and notice that I have one of the best change-up balls in business and it made my T20 career,” Bravo told Indian Express.

Before the delivery, Yuvraj had struck Bravo for two consecutive fours, reducing the equation from 10 runs needed in five balls to 2 runs needed in three balls. Bravo produced a slower ball on the fourth ball of the last over, and Yuvraj failed to respond to the change in pace as he attempted to flick the shot into the square. The ball struck the leg stump, and the Windies won by one run. For the rest of the series, India failed to win another match.

Bravo said that former West Indies captain Brian Lara had discussed “field placements” with him before the wicket-taking ball and that he still doesn’t know what he’ll bowl until he approaches the umpire during his run-up.

“I still hadn’t thought about what ball to bowl. I am still not clear when I go to the top of my run-up. At some point, before I get to the umpire, I decide I am going to bowl that dipper,” Bravo explained.

Bravo chose the delivery to Yuvraj as his favourite when asked to identify his favourite delivery. “Too many, man, to choose one ball as a favourite. That Yuvraj ball did change my life,” Bravo stated.
