Golf legend Tiger Woods, who sustained severe injuries in his legs after a car accident on Tuesday, has been shifted to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, a Los Angeles-based hospital as he recovers from a surgery that involved the placement of pins, screws and a rod in the athlete’s ankle and shinbone for support, according to US media reports.

Harbor-UCLA Medical Center’s interim chief, Dr Anish Mahajan, released a statement on Twitter that read, “On behalf of our staff, it was an honour to provide orthopaedic trauma care to one of our generation’s greatest athletes,” while refraining from providing additional information to respect privacy and confidentiality of the patient, reported CNN.

Woods, whose vehicle tipped off the curvy road and rolled over multiple times, told the medical staff that he “had no recollection of the crash”, according to Alex Villanueva, the Los Angeles County Sheriff.

Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, which is expected to host the highly celebrated golfer till he makes a significant recovery, is known for treating physical traumas and performing complicated surgeries for cases that are related to sports.

According to the medical centre’s website, the institute is the “largest in-patient medical facility of its kind on the United States West Coast and is designed to help the patients recover the skills strength and independence they require to return home and continue with their lives”, reported CNN.
