Golf maestro Tiger Woods’ name was nowhere to be found
in Steve Stricker’s American Ryder Cup team. Both the US and Europe have
confirmed their teams for this year’s cup which is set to commence on September
24 in Wisconsin. Woods will not be the only absence for the Americans as Phil
Mickelson does not make the team either.

The 15-time major champion is certainly one of the
greatest golfers of all time. He is still recovering from a horrific car
accident he suffered in February. He had to undergo surgery after the crash
which resulted in horrendous damage to the vehicle as well as the driver.

Woods suffered multiple fractures in his right leg and
might not be able to play golf again. He has been undergoing rehabilitation and
hopes to get on the field again. If Woods manages to make a comeback, then it
will be bigger than the one in 2019 when he picked up his fifth green jacket at
Augusta.

He has appeared in Ryder Cups eight times. He
captained the US team to victory in the 2019 President’s cup and his presence
will be sorely missed. Steve Stricker is captaining the side this year and has
revealed that Woods might not be present at the tournament altogether.

He revealed that he has been in direct contact with
Woods and his guidance has helped the team in a number of ways. Stricker said, “I
know some of the players went over to see him but I think it’s just not a good
time for him to be here physically because of where he’s at in his
rehabilitation.”

He continued, “But he’s getting better and his focus is on
making a comeback to play again. We don’t want to get in the way of that
because we would all love to see him come back and play.”

For a player of Woods’ stature his record has been very poor
in the Ryder’s Cup. He has lost 21 of his 37 career matches.

Tiger’s fans are hoping he makes a comeback on the field soon
and ends his career on a high note.
