Golfing legend Tiger Woods on Saturday announced his withdrawal from the PGA Championship after the 3rd Round.

Playing his second major tournament after his return to professional golf following a major road accident, Woods shot 79 in the 3rd Round, his worst score in the tournament since he managed a 77 in the 1st Round more than a decade back in 2011.

“I just didn’t play well,” Woods told the press after his dismal performance.

“I didn’t hit the ball very well and got off to not the start I needed to get off to. I thought I hit a good tee shot down two and ended up in the water, and just never really got any kind of momentum on my side,” the 46-year-old further said.

Subsequently, it was confirmed that Woods had withdrawn from the tournament and would not be playing in the fourth round.

That being said, Woods’ return to professional golf itself is nothing short of a miracle: the golfer was involved in a major car crash that left him with several compound fractures and a shattered ankle in his right foot.

At the time, Woods had indicated that he may never return to golf, and even conceded that his full-time professional golfing career was over, telling Golf Digest, “I think something that is realistic is playing the tour one day—never full time, ever again—but pick and choose, just like Mr. [Ben] Hogan did. Pick and choose a few events a year and you play around that.”

It seems the 46-year-old is doing just that: he made his return in to pro golf in 2022, with the 86th edition of the Masters Tournament held in Augusta in April being his first since the accident.
