Day 4 saw table tennis player Manika Batra getting knocked out of women’s singles Round 3 by 0-4 against Sofia Polcanova of Austria. It ended with another disappointment when India’s first-ever fencer in Olympics Bhavani Devi lost within two rounds to world number three Manon Brunet. In between these two major disappointments, men’s doubles pair Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty were toyed by World No. 1 Indonesians in Badminton. Sumit Nagal was thrashed in straight sets by World No. 2 Daniil Medvedev. Ashish Kumar was also beaten by Chinese Erbieke Tuoheta in Round of 32. Boxer Ashish Kumar crashed out middleweight round of 32. Lastly, adding to the losses, the Indian women’s hockey team went down 0-2 to Germany, marking their second consecutive defeat in Pool A.
