After kicking off with the opening ceremony on July 23, the
Tokyo Olympics has bloomed in its full glory even amidst a raging pandemic. With the competition now in its full bloom, a long list of athletes will be
representing the United States on July 27 in at least a dozen sports including,
gymnastics, tennis, basketball, shooting, and swimming.
Team USA did briefly go to the top of the medals tally on Day 4
but were dethroned by hosts Japan. They will try and go back to the summit on
day 5 with many favourites in the fray.
The first to take the field will be a 10 m air pistol mixed team of
Alexis Lagan and Nickolaus Mowrer in qualification. In Swimming, Katie Ledeckey
will be competing in the women’s 200m freestyle semifinal.
In 10m air rifle event, team USA will be represented by Alison
Marie Weisz and William Shaner. In diving, Jessica Parratto and Delaney Schnell
will fight out for the gold medal in the women’s synchronised platform final.
In tennis, Frances Tiafoe will take on Greece’s Stephanos
Tsitsipas in men’s singles second round. Tifoe will also pair up with Rajeev
Ram in doubles.
In Gymnastics, Simone Biles and team will be eyeing a gold
medal in women’s artistic team final.
Going on to Athletics, Taylor Knibb will compete in the women’s
triathlon final. Kate Courtney will be in contention for gold in women’s
cross-country mountain biking.
In Basketball, United States will take on hosts Japan in women’s
3×3 basketball.
