India’s Krishna Nagar clinched the gold medal in badminton men’s singles SH6 at the Tokyo Paralympics. In the final, Nagar defeated Hong Kong’s Kai Man Chu 21-17, 16-21, 21-17. This is India’s fifth gold at the ongoing Games. With this, Nagar not only secured India’s second gold medal in badminton but also retained his unbeaten run at the Games.

Pramod Bhagat on Saturday claimed India’s first badminton gold at the Paralympics in men’s singles SL3 class.

“This is a dream come true. I want to thank my father, mother, uncle, auntie, God, my coaches,” Nagar said.

“This is the first time that badminton has been added to the Paralympics and I hope that India will keep winning and doing their best at upcoming Games,” he added.

Earlier on Sunday, Suhas Lalinakere Yathiraj ended his campaign with a historic silver after going down fighting against top seed Lucas Mazur of France in the men’s singles SL4 class final.

The 38-year-old Noida district magistrate, who has an impairment in one of his ankles, produced an entertaining performance before narrowly going down 21-15 17-21 15-21 to two-time world champion Mazur in a 62-minute summit clash.

Congratulating him on his Paralympic gold, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that his feat has brought smiles to the faces of every Indian.

“Happy to see our Badminton players excel at the Tokyo #Paralympics. The outstanding feat of @Krishnanagar99 has brought smiles on the faces of every Indian. Congratulations to him for winning the Gold Medal. Wishing him the very best for his endeavours ahead,” PM Modi tweeted.

Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, too, congratulated Krishna Nagar for winning the gold medal at the Tokyo Paralympics. 

In a tweet, Gehlot said, “A Superb Achievement for which we are so very proud! A very Big Congrats to him for his stellar success!! @Krishnanagar99”.

India ended the Tokyo Paralympics with 19 medals in its kitty. % golds, 8 silver, 6 bronze.
