Bayern Munich won the Bundesliga for a record 11th time in a row thanks to Borussia Dortmund’s dramatic collapse on the last day.

With one minute remaining, Jamal Musiala’s long-range goal gave FC Koln a 2-1 victory while Dortmund and Mainz drew 2-2 at home.

With a two-point advantage going into the final day, Dortmund needed a victory to secure their first championship since 2012 and put an end to Bayern’s decade-long dominance of the Bundesliga.

However, catastrophe struck after just 15 minutes when Sebastien Haller missed a penalty kick for the hosts after Andreas Hanche-Olsen gave Mainz the lead. After five minutes, Mainz had doubled their advantage, and the Dortmund collapse had begun with Bayern leading Koln.

Three goals always seemed like a lofty target for BVB, and even though they scored two, the second of which came in the final seconds, they were given a reprieve when Koln tied Bayern. However, Musiala’s wonder strike in the 89th-minute ended the competition, and left Dortmund’s players in tears.

Twitter went crazy for the outrageous final with people joining Dortmund fans to share their heartbreak.

One fan wrote, “This might even be more painful than their 2013 UCL finals loss” comparing the side in yellow’s loss to their rivals Bayern Munich in the 2013 Champions League final.

Another twitter user commended Dortmund fans for their support, writing, “And as always, Borussia Dortmund fans showing love to the players after a catastrophic draw vs Mainz One of the bests fan bases in the entire world of football. Love this” and sharing a video of the famous Yellow Wall.

Meanwhile, other twitter users took joy in Dortmund’s misery, trolling the team for their “bottle job”. A twitter user said, “Dortmund might just be the worst sporting institution to ever exist,” while another said, “Say what you will about arsenal, at least they complete their bottling job before the final day,” taking a simultaneous jab at Arsenal.
