Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) star Conor McGregor recently asked his fans whether he should purchase Manchester United, a football club that is one of the most valued sports entities in the world. In a tweet on Wednesday, the 32-year-old wrote, “Hey guys, I’m thinking about buying Manchester United! What do you think?”

Soon after his post, Twitterati rushed to the comment section to ask him whether he can even afford the team.

“Do you know that the current market price of Manchester United is a bit over $2.5 bn and your estimated net worth is between 50 and 120 million? Could it be that you forgot to add the word “jersey” after Manchester United in your tweet?” a user wrote.

“He doesn’t have the money I don’t think if he does I will also second vintages statement,” another said.

Here are some other reactions:

McGregor’s post comes after Manchester United’s CEO Ed Woodward decided to quit the club.

The news of Woodward’s resignation came amid the storm created by six English Premier League clubs, including the Red Devils. Notably, the clubs joined the proposed European Super League but withdrawn their name after facing backlash from fans.

The step to form a breakaway league from the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) Champions League was also condemned by UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson and Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA).

Meanwhile, McGregor, who is a self-proclaimed fan of the team, hasn’t had the luck for quite some time now when it comes to victories inside the cage. Still, the popular boxer is worth approximately £100 million, according to Talksport. With this amount, he will definitely need a partner to own the Manchester club.
