Sumit Nagal on Tuesday became the first Indian tennis player to win a match at the US Open in seven years.
Nagal defeated his US counterpart, Bradley Klahn, in a match that lasted for four sets.
Nagal defeated Klahn 6-1,6-3,3-6,6-1. Nagal served a solitary ace during the match but converted 80% of his first serves.
The 23-year-old Indian also won 65 service points besides winning six of his 17 break points against American Klahn.
Nagal fell behind in the third set losing it 3-6 to Klahn, but ultimately went on to his first round fixture.
