All hopes of the United States men’s national soccer team progressing in FIFA World Cup 2022 were dashed on Saturday after it was handed a brutal defeat by the Netherlands, 3-1. The USMNT was knocked out of the World Cup in the round of 16.
The Netherlands bettered the USA soccer team with well-taken goals from Memphis Depay, Daley Blind and Denzel Dumfries. Although Haji Wright pulled one back for the USMNT late in the second half, it was not enough to take them through to the next round.

USA football fans took to Twitter to put the blame for losing the game on Walker Zimmerman and Jesus Ferreira – both of whom were the only two changes made on their side for this game. Ferreira was playing his first game since October 23 and Zimmerman was replacing Cameron Carter-Vickers.
“In games like this Pulisic will suffer because we don’t have a technical LB he can combine with. Ferreira and Zimmerman aren’t cut out technically on the ball either,” one of them said, while another noted, “When you field players like Ferreira and Zimmerman, who are meant for MLS and nothing more, you don’t stand a chance. This team was never ready.” A third remarked, “As expected, Ferreira & Zimmerman have disrupted our flow at every fucking turn.”

One more stated, “Thanks for the memories Berhalter, but it’s time to go!!!!” Another user said, “Walker Zimmerman knew that bicycle kick attempt was going to go horribly and tried it in front of millions of people all the same. Respect.” One Twitter tweeted, “The dutch keeper watching “Walker Zimmerman” attempt a bicycle kick.”
A Twitter user commented, “Zimmerman trying to replicate a Ronaldo bicycle kick.” One more noted, “Starting jesus ferreira and Zimmerman ahead of reyna and ccv. fire Gregg and arrest him immediately.”
