Viking SKOL clap breaks at US Bank Stadium as Minnesota fights back vs Indianapolis Colts on Saturday. This is one of the greatest comebacks in NFL’s 2022 season as the Vikings were trailing by 33-0 after the first two quarters, and then went on to tie the affair at 36-36.
Some fans are, however, not taking these claps in a positive way, with many coming out against the Vikings on social media. One Twitter user wrote, “@Vikings Skol clap is so cringe… may god have mercy on your pathetic souls”.
When the Vikings were trailing against the Colts, one fan even chose to mock their supporters, asking on Twitter, “Where’s the horn?? Where’s the asinine clap??? Where’s the Skol??? Thought these were the greatest fans?! #NFL #Vikings”
Check out another fan’s reaction:
However, the origin of the Vikings’ clap was not in gridiron football, but in football (soccer) itself. It was first made popular on the world stage by fans of the Iceland national team during the Euro 2016 tournament. The clap was again brought to attention in the 2018 FIFA World Cup, in which the European nation was a contender.
The clap has been used by many other teams throughout sporting history, including Iran’s Esteghal and Persepolis football clubs, the Indian national football team, and the Carolina Hurricanes.

The match was a highly contentious affair, when the referee allegedly ruled out a touchdown by the Vikings’ Chandon Sullivan, prompting the cornerback to drop a F-bomb, following which fans also began booing the referees.
Sports anchor Jake Rongholt said about the match, “Three things should not have happened today. Dead ball on Chandon Sullivan’s fumble for a TD in 2nd. Sullivan “down by contact” and a unsportsmanlike conduct in 4th. Vikings down 33-0 at halftime to the Colts (that is embarrassing)”.
