Virat Kohli has been a part of the Royal Challengers Bangalore since the inaugural IPL edition in 2008. He was retained by the side for the 2022 edition for Rs 15 crore.

The franchise, on Tuesday, posted a podcast video on Twitter where the former India skipper can be seen recalling the moment he was selected for the Bangalore-based franchise in 2008. 

“We were all in Malaysia for the U-19 World Cup. I remember the day when the drafts were happening. The U-19 dynamic was a little different, because we very rightly had a money cap, if I could say. That was the only time where I saw a restriction on how much you can be picked for if you haven’t played for India,” Kohli was seen saying.

The 33-year-old, who will no longer captain RCB, described the moment as ‘absoulutely crazy’. 

“So that for us, I remember even that moment for us was so amazing. Because the amount that we got picked for when they announced it, we couldn’t believe it because it was absolutely crazy,” Kohli added.

Kohli, mid-way though the last season, in the UAE-leg, announced that he will step down as RCB skipper after 2021. The franchise finished third and his tenure as leader couldn’t land the team an IPL trophy. Virat Kohli had also stepped down as India’s T20I and Test captain. He was sacked from the post in ODIs. 

Virat Kohli is the leading run-getter in the IPL. He has scored 6,283 runs in 207 matches at an average of 37.4 and strike-rate of 129.95. He has five hundreds and 42 fifties against his name.
