Virat Kohli, the former India captain and arguably one of the greatest players cricket has ever seen, shared a video of his hotel room that was being shared on the internet on Instagram Monday and said he was not okay with this invasion of privacy.

Virat Kohli is in Australia playing the T20 World Cup.

“I understand that fans get very happy and excited seeing their favourite players and get excited to meet them and I’ve always appreciated that. But this video here is appalling and it’s made me feel very paranoid about my privacy,” Kohli wrote on Instagram.

“If I cannot have privacy in my own hotel room, then where can I really expect any personal space at all?? I’m NOT okay with this kind of fanaticism and absolute invasion of privacy. Please respect people’s privacy and not treat them as a commodity for entertainment,” the former India captain added.

Kohli’s wife Anushka Sharma, the Bollywood actor, too wrote in support of her husband’s post. “Have experienced a few incidents where some fans have shown no compassion or grace in the past but this really is the worst thing. An absolute disgrace and violation of a human being and anyone who sees this and thinks celebrity ho to deal karna padega (you have to deal with this because you’re a celebrity) is also part of the problem. Exercising some self control helps everyone. Also, if this is happening in your bedroom then where is the line?”

David Warner, the Australian opening batter, questioned the security standards at the hotel in his country that allowed something of the sort to happen. “This is ridiculous, totally unacceptable. Was this @crownperth,” Warner said.

Virat Kohli reported the incident a day after his dream run at the T20 World Cup drew into a pause. After remaining unbeaten for two consecutive games, Kohli was out for 12 off 11 balls in the game against South Africa. South Africa won the match by 5 wickets.
