Washington Commanders coach Ron Rivera was fuming in the post-match press conference after his side’s 12-7 win over the Chicago Bears at the Soldier Field on Thursday. The 60-year-old slammed the ESPN report that said franchise owner Daniel Snyder was behind hiring Carson Wentz as a quarterback.

Wentz’s struggle in the 2022 season continued against the Chicago Bears. The Washington quarterback recorded 2/22, 99 on Thursday and his team used goal-line stands to steal the game. 

Carson Wentz completed 25 of 38 passes for 359 yards and two touchdowns in Washington’s 21-17 loss against the Tennessee Titans last week. His interception on the team’s final offensive play sealed the win for their opponents.

Ron Rivera was asked about what separates Washington from the other three teams in NFC East. On Thursday, the coach spoke aout an explosive ESPN report about Dan Snyder, and the lengths he is willing to go to maintain control over the franchise.

The report said that Snyder viewed a ‘franchise quarterback’ as a potential ‘silver bullet’ towards keeping ownership of the team. And that is why he wanted Wentz.

“Everybody keeps saying I didn’t want anything to do with Carson,” Rivera said in his postgame comments.

“Well bulls–t. I’m the f–king guy that pulled out the sheets of paper, looked at the analytics, that watched the tape when we were freaking in Indianapolis, OK? And that’s what pisses me off. Because the young man doesn’t deserve to have that all the time,” he added.

ESPN quoted Snyder telling an associate last winter that a marquee quarterback would solve his problems. Washington, in March, traded second-, third-, and conditional third-round picks to the Indianapolis Colts for Carson Wentz.

“It was 100% a Dan move,” an ESPN source with knowledge of the inner workings of the deal, said. 

The Commanders are are now 2-4 on the season. They trail Dallas Cowboys, New York Giants and the Philadelphia Eagles on the division.
