India all-rounder Washington Sundar missed his maiden international century by four runs during the fourth Test between India and England at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. India was bowled out for 365 with Sundar stranded on 96.

India built a lead of 160 in response to England’s 205 after Sundar and Axar Patel, who made 43, put on 106 for the eighth wicket in Ahmedabad.

Sundar had walked out to bat with India having lost 6 wickets for 146. He then put on 100+ run stands with Rishabh Pant and Axar Patel to not only take India past England’s first-innings total, but ensure that they had a sizeable lead.

While on Saturday, Sundar played second fiddle to Rishabh Pant, he shifted gears on day 3.

India, leading 2-1 in the series, only need to win or draw the match to book a berth in the World Test Championship final at Lord’s.
