Hardik Pandya, the star of India’s Asia Cup 2022 opener against Pakistan, was dismissed without scoring against Babar Azam and co at the Super 4 stage on Sunday. Rohit Sharma and co scored 181 runs in the first innings. 

Pandya came in to bat after India lost two quick wickets – Suryakumar Yadav and Rishabh Pant. The team was batting at 126/4. Virat Kohli was settled at the other end.

Mohammad Hasnain delivered a cross-seam short of length delivery, which Pandya tried to whip. The all-rounder walked across and lofted it towards mid-wicket. Mohammad Nawaz took a catch.

After being put to bat, Indian openers Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul guided India to a flying start. The pair added 50 runs in 26 balls, which is the fastest first-wicket fifty stand in an India vs Pakistan game.

India were 62/1 after the powerplay – theie highest total in the first six overs against Pakistan. However, the two fell in consecutive overs. 

Virat Kohli, meanwhile, kept scoring regular boundaries and reached his second half-century in the ongoing Asia Cup. The 33-year-old smashed a 149kmph delivery from Mohammad Hasnain for a six over cow corner to reach the landmark. He was run out in the last over of the innings.

Deepak Hooda was dismissed by a 108 kmph Naseem Shah slower one. The all-rounder cleared his front leg and swung across the line. The ball shot up in the air. Mohammad Nawaz ttok a catch at mid-wicket.
