As Brazilian football legend, Pelé was moved to palliative care on Saturday, the Torch hotel outside Khalifa stadium lit up with get-well-soon wishes for him. A three-time World Cup winner, Pele was admitted to the hospital on Tuesday to reevaluate his cancer treatment.

He was later diagnosed with a respiratory infection, medical reports reveal. Pele took to his Instagram to reveal that he has been admitted to the hospital while thanking his fans for all the positive messages he had received.

“Friends, I am at the hospital making my monthly visit,” Peléposted a message along with a photo of him on a building in Doha. “It’s always nice to receive positive messages like this. Thanks to Qatar for this tribute, and to everyone who sends me good vibes!”

Pelé underwent chemotherapy for his colon cancer, but after it stopped bearing the expected results, he was moved to Palliative care. Tributes have poured in for the legend, as fans pray for Pelé’s  speedy recovery. But one of the most magnificent displays was in Khalifa stadium, where, the torch stadium was lit up with a photo of Pelé on the field, along with the message Get Well Soon.

Pelé’s daughter Kely Nascimento took to  Instagram earlier this week to reveal that there was “no surprise or emergency” in her father’s hospital visit. “Lots of alarm in the media today concerning my dad’s health. There is no emergency or new dire prediction. I will be there for New Year’s and promise to post some pictures,” Nascimento said.

Pelé, a football legend, started his career at the age of 15, when he debuted playing for Brazilian club Santos. His performance in this match caught the attention of The Brazil National Team, who invited him to represent the country at the mere age of 16. 

Pelé’s career in Football has been illustrious, with him attaining the title of “footballer of the Millenium” by International Olympic Committee.
