India’s star all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja won the player of the match award for his three-for against Scotland on Friday. India defeated the Scots by eight wickets, keeping their T20 World Cup semi-finals hopes alive.

Virat Kohli and company will now need Afghanistan to beat New Zealand for them to have a shot at the next stage. Team India’s net run rate is higher than both teams.

It was Jadeja’s hilarious response to a journalist that went viral on social media. After the Scotland win, in a press conference, when the Rajkot player was asked what would the team do if New Zealand defeated Afghanistan on Sunday, he said, “We will pack our bags and leave.”

With the two consecutive wins, against Afghanistan and Scotland, India occupy the third place on the Group 2 table with four points and a net run rate of 1.619.

Jadeja also said that it is unfair to judge the current Indian team on the basis of one or two defeats after consistent good performances at home and abroad in the last three years.

India had lost the first two games at the T20 World Cup by big margins. First Pakistan defeated the Men in Blue by 10 wickets and then the 2007 champions suffered an eight-wicket loss against Kane Williamson’s New Zealand.

Jadeja was asked in the context of his skipper Virat Kohli’s assertion that the team wasn’t “brave enough” against New Zealand during their second game which they lost by eight wickets.

“If you look at it that way, then in last two to three years, we have played some really good cricket, whether it’s in India or overseas. So it’s not fair to judge us on basis of one or two games,” he said.

“In T20 cricket, any team can have an odd bad game or two but you can’t think too much about those defeats. You have to move on and think about the opportunities ahead. We will take the positives from those two games and look to play well in future games,” he added.
