Having chosen to bat first, the Windies openers got things going quickly, scoring 45 runs in the first 6 overs. Kyle Mayers was the front-row aggressive batter, which allowed Shai Hope to take time to set. Shamarh Brooks also had a promising beginning, but like Mayers, he was unable to capitalize on it. In his 100th ODI, Shai Hope became the fourth West Indian and tenth overall batter to hit a century. Skipper Nicholas Pooran also contributed significantly with a crucial knock that featured six maximums.

Shai Hope scored his thirteenth ODI century against India and etched his names in the record books. With this ton, he joined an exclusive club of batters who scored a century in their hundredth ODI match. He became the fourth West Indian and tenth overall batter to achieve this feat. He now joins the likes of Chris Gayle, Kumar Sangakkara, David Warner and Shikhar Dhawan. He hit 8 fours and 2 sixes en route his 125-ball ton.

When asked how he feels after his ton, Shai Hope said, “Playing 100 games for West Indies and to score a hundred in my 100th ODI means a lot to me. My back was stiffening up a little and it was tough out there. It’s a decent score on this pitch. It was about getting in, I have not got a start like this in a while, so wanted to capitalize on that and put some runs. It’s not what it is, it’s a good score and some balls are keeping low, the spinners will come into play.”
