While he was one of the most followed attackers in Europe even a couple of years ago, Timo Werner’s value decreased exponentially when he failed to live up to the expectations at Chelsea. The German attacker was subjected to much criticism but failed to leave a mark on the Stamford Bridge faithful’s minds. He failed to revive his goalscoring form under Thomas Tuchel as well and was sold back to RB Leipzig in the 2022 summer transfer window.
As Werner returned to RB Leipzig for a second stint in August 2022, fans and pundits both doubted whether he could replicate his earlier fiery form for the club. The 26-year-old scored a whopping 78 goals in 127 appearances for the club in his previous stint, which helped him to become one of the most exciting forwards in Europe.

Timo Werner marked his second RB Leipzig debut with style as he scored a long-range goal from 30-yards out against Koln in the second Bundesliga matchday. Leipzig Manager Domenico Tedesco decided to include him in the starting XI against FC Köln and the 26-year-old repaid the faith shown in him with the game’s opening goal.
Watch the goal here:
Werner received the ball from Benjamin Henrichs in the 36th minute while making a run to accommodate the team’s attacking play. After the first touch, he decided to shoot while the Koln keeper Marvin Schwabe looked to be organising the defence for a potential close-up call.

The curling effort was too much for Schwabe to handle, who let it slip right under his arms and into the nets. The goal helped Leipzig to lead by 1-0 before Florian Dietz equalized only four minutes later. The match ended as a 2-2 draw with a goal and an own-goal by Christopher Nkunku and Josko Gvardiol respectively.
RB Leipzig sits in the 11th spot in the Bundesliga table currently and will face Union Berlin in the next game in the league on August 20.
