India defeated Australia by 6 runs in their first warm up match of the T20 World Cup, all thanks to Mohammed Shami‘s final brilliant final over. Shami, who replaced injured Jasprit Bumrah in the squad, took two wickets and a run out to win the match for India.

The Indian pacer was ably supported by Virat Kohli, who had a good day at the field. Kohli ran out Tim David in a sensational display of fielding in the penultimate over. This came just after Harshal Patel sent back half centurion Aaron Finch back to the pavilion in the first ball of the over.

The ex-India captain in the next over showed his athleticism in the next over, when he took a one handed catch at the ropes.

Virat Kohli then again showed why he is such an important asset in the field, taking a one handed blinder near the boundary line, to send Pat Cummins back to the pavilion.

In the next delivery, Shami used his presence of mind to run out Ashton Agar, as he tried to steal a single to give batter Josh Inglis on strike. Inglis couldn’t do much as he did not have a response for Shami’s yorker and returned to the pavilion.

In the last ball of the match, the hosts needed a six to win the match. Kane Richardson was on strike, but couldn’t do anything as Shami bowled him out by another brilliant yorker, winning the match for the Men in Blue.

Earlier in the game, India had set Australia a target of 187 runs to chase, courtesy of half-centuries by KL Rahul and Suryakumar Yadav. Australia were cruising in the chase as Aaron Finch and Mitchell Marsh’s brilliant opening start helped Australia finish the powerplay strongly.

However, Mohammed Shami’s penultimate over contribution turned the match in India’s favour. India will face New Zealand next on October 19 in their final warm up game.
