The electrifying aura in Ahmedabad's Narendra Modi Stadium only seems to grow, ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 final. While dance performances and patriotic melodies set the stadium on fire, a massive jersey swooped right in as the showstopper, helping the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) enter the Guinness Book of World Records.
The BCCI unveiled the world's largest cricket jersey at the world’s largest cricket stadium- the Narendra Modi Stadium. Sourav Ganguly, the sports body's president, Jay Shah, the secretary and Brijesh Patel, the chairman of the IPL, were handed the Guinness certificate towards the end of the closing ceremony.
The ginormous white jersey, which has number 15 inscribed on it, symbolizes the 15th edition of the cricket tournament. It also consists of the logos of 10 IPL teams including Chennai Super Kings, Mumbai Indians, Gujarat Titans, Kolkata Knight Riders and Punjab Kings.
Ravi Shastri, the host of the ceremony, revealed that the jersey is 66 x 44 meters.
The IPL shared a clip of the record-setting jersey on Twitter.
"It is the 15th year of IPL and on this milestone occasion, the closing ceremony for this year's IPL has to be really mega. It is a grand closing ceremony with the best of the global superstars coming to perform for the audience. It is going to be really huge because we are not just having two star icons performances for the offline stadium that are sitting inside the stadium and for the online viewers, " said Chanda Singh, who is responsible for managing IPL 2022's closing ceremony of IPL 2022, according to the Print.
