Ahead of the transfer window closing, former Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney is entirely not convinced that his former teammate Cristiano Ronaldo would join Manchester City.

MEN Sport reported that Manchester City are currently in discussions with Juventus about the prospect of signing the Portugal international player after missing out on Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane.

Manchester City are keen to support their attacking options ahead of next Tuesday evening’s deadline. Although talks have progressed well, there are several other hurdles that need to be crossed before they can consider themselves close to signing the five-time Ballon d’Or winner, who left United in 2009.

Although City have received notification that CR7 is keen to make the move, Wayne Rooney, now manager of Championship side Derby County, doubts that it will happen, insisting that French giants Paris Saint-Germain have a better chance of securing his signature.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Rooney said, “I don’t know what to make of it, to be honest. If you are asking me ‘do I think it’s possible?’ I would have major doubts that it is a possibility.”

“Cristiano has got a great legacy at Manchester United and I don’t think he would go somewhere for financial reasons,” Sky Sports reported Rooney as saying.

“So I would be a bit unsure if that is going to happen. I think there is more chance of it being PSG if he is to leave Juventus. But, on the other hand, it is football, anything can happen,” Rooney added.

“It has happened before with big players and legends from Manchester United, in terms of Peter Schmeichel, who went to City. Andy Cole went to City. Mark Hughes managed City,” he further said.

According to reports, the former Manchester United player and five-time Ballon d’Or winner is eyeing a move to his former club’s cross-town rivals, Manchester City.
