In American Football, taking a knee means going down on one knee as a protest against the unfair treatment of black people, especially by sports players on a pitch before a game. Since then anti-racist statement becomes a prominent symbol in sports and during protests.

During a match in 2016, American footballer Colin Kaepernick took the knee during the national anthem before a match, he said he couldn%u2019t stand to show pride in the flag of the country that oppressed black people. The players and officials in the Premier League have started taking the knee to highlight racial inequality and discrimination.

Gareth Southgate, England manager said that his players have decided to continue %u2018taking the knee%u2019 during Euro 2020 and they feel more determined than ever. Although some fans booed players kneeling before in the recent matches, players said that was canceled out by fans cheering. Whereas some people say they oppose kneeling because they see it as a political statement and it has no place in sports.

The Welsh FA has confirmed that its national team will take the knee during Euro 2020. UEFA Euro 2020 organizers urged spectators to show respect for teams and players taking the knee. “Any player who wants to demand equality amongst human beings by taking the knee will be allowed to do so,” it said.
