During a NASCAR race at Michigan International Speedway, Chase Elliott hit the wall on Lap 35 due to a right rear tire issue.
As the race unfolded, Chase Elliott was performing admirably, making his way up the ranks from a starting position of 10th to a promising seventh place. However, disaster struck on Lap 35 when his No. 9 Chevrolet abruptly spun around, backing into the outside wall.
Upon examination, it was revealed that a right rear tire had gone flat, causing the untimely mishap. The unfortunate collision crumpled the rear of Elliott’s car, leaving his team with no choice but to send him to the garage, effectively ending his hopes of a successful finish at Michigan International Speedway.
The incident involving Chase Elliott triggered the second caution of the day, prompting the entire field to proceed with caution. As Elliott’s car was taken to the garage for repairs, the caution period allowed other teams, such as Michael McDowell’s No. 34 Ford, to address issues and attempt some quick repairs. McDowell’s team even inquired over the radio if their driver had hit someone, given the significant damage to the front of their car.
Before the race, Chase Elliott was already facing a significant points deficit, entering the weekend 40 points below the playoff cutline. With his unfortunate finish at Michigan International Speedway, the pressure intensified for the talented driver to secure a victory in one of the remaining three regular-season races to ensure a spot in the playoffs.
While Elliott’s primary focus remains on securing a win, accumulating points in the first two stages could also pave the way for an easier path to the playoffs.
