Before their match against Poland on Saturday, Saudi Arabia made a touching tribute to defender Yasser Al-Shahrani after his terrible injury against Argentina in the FIFA 2022 that saw the Middle Eastern team pull a shocking win against the football favorites. 

In order to pay a tribute that was captured on camera, Saudi players huddled on the side of the pitch with goalkeeper Mohammed Al-Owais holding up Al-Shahrani’s shirt.

 The Saudi defender was injured after a clash with Al-Owais, after the latter came out to punch a late cross. The incident ended in him having to be stretchered off in the middle of the match against Argentina. Al-Shahrani has undergone pancreatic surgery following the clash and the 30-year-old dropped to the floor. 

As a result, Al-Shahrani suffered a fractured jaw, a collapse of the facial bones, and internal bleeding. Saudi Federation said: “Yasser Al-Shahrani underwent a successful surgery in the pancreatic gland at the National Guard Hospital in Riyadh.”

The defender has since been admitted to the hospital and communicated that he is well and recovering. However, he will have to spend a lengthy period on the sidelines. The defender has been ruled out of the rest of the World Cup, given the severity of the injury.

At the end of the match, the score ended up being 2-1 in favor of Saudi Arabia. King Salman declared a national holiday in the country following the shocker of a win. It was also declared that all Saudi Arabia players will be rewarded with a Rolls Royce each, courtesy of Saudi Arabian Prince Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud.

Each of them will be receiving an RM6 million Rolls Royce Phantom.
