Leah Van Dale and husband Matt Polinsky are expecting their first child.

The WWE star revealed her news of being pregnant to “Good Morning America” on Monday in an exclusive interview.

“It’s just all been such a whirlwind. I think because of my past, it was hard to get excited off the bat about this one, but I was cautiously optimistic. I try to have a good mindset, a positive mindset this time around, and it’s working. So I’m very happy about that,” she stated.

In September and October of last year, 35-year-old Van Dale, better known by her stage name Carmella, miscarried twice. Although she is due in November, she claimed that this pregnancy has “been really good” thus far.

However, she continued, her morning sickness “has been crazy.”

“I’ve been nauseous. I’ve been so tired, more tired than I’ve ever been in my life. But I’ve never been so happy to feel so awful. I’ve been great, I mean mentally. It’s kind of this weird space where I’m excited, but also just a little apprehensive because of the miscarriages. It’s unfortunate that it robs you of the true excitement that should be there,” she told Good Morning America.

In April 2022, Van Dale and her 39-year-old husband Polinsky got married. Polinsky and his ex-wife Amy Polinsky had three children together who are already adults.

Even though Van Dale and Polinsky were initially “apprehensive” to tell her stepchildren about her pregnancy because “they’re all a little bit older,” she continued, “they were all very excited to learn about it.”

When did Carmella have a miscarriage?

After having an ectopic pregnancy in 2022, Van Dale made the decision to tell the public about her second miscarriage. At the time, she wrote about it on Instagram, which led to thousands of encouraging comments from her fans and her WWE colleagues.

Ectopic pregnancy happens when a fertilized egg implants outside of the uterus, according to the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists.

According to the group, individuals who smoke, are over 35, have a history of infertility, or have used “assisted reproductive technology, such as in vitro fertilization” may also be at increased risk of experiencing an ectopic pregnancy. Other risk factors for ectopic pregnancy include certain sexually transmitted infections, pelvic inflammatory disease, endometriosis, and prior ectopic pregnancies. According to the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, atypical vaginal bleeding, low back pain, or slight pain or cramping on one side of the pelvis are all signs of an ectopic pregnancy.

The “Total Divas” star stated that her encounter “was definitely difficult,” leaving her feeling “alone and isolated.”

“It just changed me. I was a different person because of that . And I felt like, if I’m going through this, surely there are other couples going through this in the world, and no one talks about it. Nobody puts it out there. It’s almost like there’s a shame around it — which, there’s nothing to be ashamed of,” she said.

“It’s a part of life, and many people go through it. It affects more people than you realize,” she continued, adding that she wants to help other women by sharing her story and “normalizing it.”

Van Dale took a sabbatical from wrestling following her miscarriages to focus on healing, allowing her to spend more time with her family.
